The Boshoff opened its doors in March 2018, and we are now six months in…! It’s indeed been a crazy, rollercoaster ride. On the one hand, we have met amazing people while on the other we have occasionally had to deal with frustrating challenges. It’s The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: A Package Deal indeed.
There are great people out there! During the past six months, we have welcomed fantastic guests. Some have been appreciative; others are kind and considerate while some are the ideal guests any listing can wish to host!
The Boshoff has accommodated both local and international guests. They have come from Durban and surrounding areas, various parts all over South Africa, and from as far as Australia and Namibia.
There are undoubtedly challenges! Reading seems to be a thing of the past. We compiled precise and concise Terms and Conditions and Do’s and Don’t even before we listed The Boshoff. Unfortunately, it seems that people are too excited or eager or just couldn’t be bothered to read them when they make their booking.
The best example is check-in and departure times. It’s simple. Check-in time at The Boshoff is between 14h00 and 18h00. Inevitably we get requests for very early or very late check-in, and we deal with each one as productively as possible. Unfortunately, many guests disregard our agreement and arrive at their own time. Since we don’t live on the property, it creates real issues for everyone!
Sometimes it gets ugly. Safety is our listing and our guests’ priority. We compiled our Terms and Conditions with security, as well as a relaxing and homely experience in mind. Also, our Terms and Conditions are meant to protect our establishment as well as the comfort and serenity of our neighbourhood.
Excessive noise, loud music, parties and functions, visitors and late night music played in the car park are not allowed. Guests are informed about it all at the time of making their booking, and we remind them about our terms before check-in. We also have visible signage all over the property including all of the essential conditions.
We don’t ever withhold our terms and conditions or our rules from potential guests. Ignorance as a defence is therefore futile.
Occasionally, guests choose to ignore our rules and terms. We address them when they transgress our conditions, and it’s at those times that it can get ugly. Some people don’t take it kindly when they are caught out with additional guests not paid for or when we ask them to soften their music.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: A Package Deal
The Boshoff will continue to deal with the good, the bad and the ugly. We will continue to run our establishment with the best interest of our guests and our business in mind. Most importantly we will continue to learn.
The rollercoaster ride will have more ups and downs, but as long as we can look forward to meeting new, amazing people from all over the world, The Boshoff’s doors will remain open.
